Teaching Philosophy

My core philosophy as a music educator is to cultivate a lifelong appreciation and understanding of music in every student. I believe that music is not just a skill nor a subject to be studied, but a pathway to expression, self-discovery, cultural and community connection, as well as critical and creative problem solving. My goal is to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to explore their musical potential, build confidence, and discover the joy of creation.

In the past two years, I have taught composition and aural skills at the collegiate level in both classroom and lesson settings. My pedagogical practice emerges from prior teaching experience to be flexible and adaptive to a diverse learning interests and passions. I prioritize the growth of students by utilizing my compositional assets. In creating tailored learning materials and methods that best suit a student’s learning style, each of my student can focus on their target skills whether it is technique development, ear-training, sight-reading skills, music theory knowledge, or stylistic performances. I strive for assisting them in the process of learning how to achieve their objectives.

I believe that motivation is the key to your growth. On top of technical improvements, my interdisciplinary musical background in academia will serve as the compass in your musical journey. In long term, I teach my students to follow their hearts instead of dwelling on the instructions. As an experienced orchestra and chamber musician, I structure lesson time with rehearsal strategies that optimizes your learning outcome by incorporating interactive feedback into systemic curriculum.

I am committed to creating a vibrant and caring learning space where student at all ages and levels can explore freely and safely in finding their voice through resources I provide.
